Sean Warburton

Sean started running back in 2007, at the time he made a decision to get fit and lose some weight following a few life changes. In 2012 Sean entered the Manchester Marathon, anyone that ran this race will remember how awful the weather was, he finished in 4 hours and 7 mins, a was particularly proud moment.

Despite the terrible weather Sean caught the marathon bug and continued to run Marathons each spring and autumn for the next few years, getting his time down to 3 hours 8 minutes in 2015, it was the year Manchester was famously measured short and they adjusted the time to 3 hours 10. In 2018 Sean gained a place in the Brathay 10 marathons in 10 days challenge in the Lake District, running 10 laps of the Windermere Marathon course over 10 consecutive days. It was brutal, but really enjoyed the event running each day around 3 hours 45 mins, give or take a minute or two.

Once the 10 in 10 was over Sean had a major case of marathon blues, and didn’t know where to go from there. Sean gained some weight and struggled to get motivated. Scrolling through social media one night an advert for Chicago Marathon popped up, it immediately stood out as something he’d love to do. Needing a qualifying time of sub 3 hours 20, which Sean achieved from Chester Marathon in 2018, so he signed up there and then and got accepted!

Sean set myself a goal of running sub 3 hours, a time he always thought well beyond him. So he joined Hyde Striders, and had structure, good advice, better access to races & times just kept dropping through 2018/19. Sean ran a fantastic 2:42:26 in Chicago. So it’s only in the last 3 or 4 years he has started pushing himself and become more competitive.

Sean joined Salford Harriers in 2020, so he is hoping he can squeeze some more time out of the veteran legs in the next few years.

When Sean is not running he is a safety, health and environment manager for a logistics company and owner of Benny the Boston terrier.
His favourite place to walk , run, hike and be is the stunning Lake District where all Sean and Benny’s holidays are !
