Sean Warburton | Salford Harriers

Sean began his running journey in 2007, originally lacing up to improve his fitness for his first love, hiking in the Lake District. What started as cross‑training quickly grew into something more. In 2012, he completed his first marathon, the infamous year of brutal weather, finishing in 4:07 in the race won by Dave Norman.

For several years after, Sean balanced running with cycling and hiking, until joining Hyde Striders in 2018 in a bid to break 3 hours in the marathon, the following year running 2:43:26 at the Chicago Marathon in 2019. From there, running became the priority. The bike was retired, the mileage increased, and in 2020 Sean joined Salford Harriers. With Salford, he further sharpened his marathon form, lowering his PB to 2:37:08 and collecting medals along the way while representing the club.

To date, Sean has completed a 41 marathons, including a 10 marathons in 10 days around Lake Windermere in 2018. His marathons include some iconic races, including Chicago, London, Berlin, and Valencia, with the Lake District always close to his heart.

Katie Kay | East Cheshire Harriers

Katie started running around 2016, joining Hyde Village Striders, where she made lots of friends and really enjoyed the social aspect of running, describing herself as a ‘plodder’! However, after getting more involved in the running scene she became interested in pushing herself further and joined East Cheshire Harriers, where she had the opportunity to get involved in more structured sessions.

Whilst Katie has had a successful running career on the roads, having represented the England Masters team over 10k and 1/2 marathon (soon to add marathon!), she says her real love is off road / trail running. In 2021 she completed the Heights 50 mile Ultra, which she loved. She also enjoys cross country and has proudly been picked to represent Greater Manchester at the inter county cross country championships for 2 years running in 2025 and 2026.

Whilst the road isn’t her favourite terrain, Katie is a fan of the marathon and has now run 9 marathons; 8 x London, 1 x Berlin! She is currently training to run as part of the England Masters team at Manchester marathon, and a week later will take to the streets of London as part of the Puma Project3 team.

Katie always says that running is more than just the outcome for her; whilst she trains hard and will push herself, she always try’s to enjoy the experiences that running brings.

Dave has been running since the age of 13 when he joined Altrincham & District Athletic Club. Dave was inspired to take up the sport after growing up watching his father Jeff competing.

Dave is a well known face on the UK running circuit with several top 20 National Cross Country finishes and sub 30min 10k clockings to his name, but is possibly equally well known for some of the high quality races he has organised, most notably the Trafford 10k. More recently, he has become well known for the RunningLive Facebook page, providing live video streaming of races.

He considers the Marathon to be his best event and has a lifetime best of 2:18:34 set in 2004, as well as a top 15 finish in the London Marathon in 2010. His greatest marathon successes were arguably winning the 2012 and 2013 Greater Manchester Marathon.

Dave now continues to compete in the veterans category, and has a particular liking for the National Cross Country Championships, which he has not missed since 1997.

Cal started running in 2012 to get fit for his wedding. After he caught the bug, he joined Hyde Village Striders. After being introduced to more and more races and styles of training, he did his LiRF course and coached sessions for the club.

In 2018, he joined Salford Harriers hoping to improve his times, and did. However, he didnt stay there long as he was training on his own with not being able to get to most sessions due to his kids being young. He then joined East Cheshire Harriers in 2019 to join the VivaGlennPiper fun bus. His times continued to improve more and more.

Cal has been a pacer at many races but a highlight is Manchester 10k where he has paced 45min each year since 2022. A race that he loves to pace.
